Fab four take honours in the 2018 What Car? awards

SEAT Ateca - on the road

SEAT has taken the What Car? Car of the Year Awards 2018 by storm, with four models – Arona, Ibiza, Leon and Ateca – taking category wins.

The motoring magazine’s awards were presented at a glitzy ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Tuesday night and gave the new Arona immediate success.

The newcomer claimed the ‘Best Small SUV’ title in a hotly contested category, following up a five-star What Car? review. It continues SEAT’s dominance of the category – its larger brother, the Ateca, won the award in 2017.

Well-equipped

The What Car? judges said that the Arona was more affordable than most rivals, thanks to ‘great finance deals’, and they praised the ‘comfortable and well-equipped interior’.

We also have to make room in the trophy cabinet for the new Ibiza’s ‘Best Small Car’ title, which builds on a five-star assessment from What Car?’s road test team. The judges said: “The Ibiza is everything a small car should be – it’s agile, practical and offers low running costs.”

The SEAT Leon was named the top choice for a new family car at a price less than £18,000, repeating its 2017 success. “SEAT is on a roll at the moment,” the judges said. “And the Leon kicked off its current revival. With a well-crafted interior and a focused driving style…it’s a great win for SEAT at this price point.”

Impressive

The Ateca, which also received a What Car? five-star review, completed the impressive SEAT showing, and was awarded the ‘Best Family SUV’ for less than £20,000 crown. Judges thought it was ‘staggering value for money’. The Ateca was rewarded for its impressive equipment, and the punchy performance of its 1.0 TSI Ecomotive 115PS engine.

SEAT UK Director, Richard Harrison, said: “These awards are among the most highly-respected in the car industry and it is tremendous to have collected so much silverware in one evening. There is tangible momentum with SEAT, and the judges’ comments confirm how we’re succeeding in giving our customers even more style, quality, technology, choice and performance, with value-for-money guaranteed.”
