SEAT’s sales numbers increased for the fourth year running in 2016, with 410,200 vehicles delivered during the year. That’s 2.6 per cent up on 2015’s result of 400,000 units and the best result since 2007.
The new Ateca – the brand’s first SUV – has contributed to this great result. There have been 24,200 units sold globally since it went on sale last July. It meant SEAT deliveries in the second half of the year went up by 5.3 per cent.
There was also an increase in sales of the Alhambra and Leon as both ended the year with their highest ever sales results:
- Sales of the Alhambra – 20 years after the first model was launched – increased by 13.6 per cent to put global sales at 30,700 units
- Leon continued to be the brand’s best-selling model with 165,000 units sold: up three per cent
The Ibiza, which is due to be replaced later in 2017, had a good year with 152,000 vehicles sold. That’s just 0.9 per cent below what it achieved in 2015.
There were 319,900 units sold in Western Europe, which is 2.2 per cent up from 2015. This was helped by a boost in sales in markets such as Austria (up 12.9 per cent), Sweden (up 31.3 per cent) and Portugal (17 per cent). The UK – the brand’s third largest market – improved by 0.5 per cent with 47,400 units sold.
