Female workforce at SEAT factory is double the automotive industry average
Women now account for 22 per cent of the workforce at Martorell – SEAT’s main factory – which is double the industry average of 11 per cent.
Victoria Blázquez – Production Supervisor
Victoria Blázquez is one of the 1,600 women who work on the assembly lines at Martorell. She has worked her way up from operative to production supervisor, where she holds a high level of responsibility in an area traditionally dominated by men.
“There is no distinction whatsoever between men and women on the assembly line. I am another member of the team and perfectly integrated with the rest of my colleagues. When I began as an operative I thought I was going to continue in that job for a long time, but later on my goal was to become a supervisor,” says Victoria.
Victoria believes that the automotive sector doesn’t need to be associated with men, and that women will gradually make headway in the industry. She thinks that women contribute important but different skills, such as order and love of detail.
Moving even further up the career ladder, Victoria is currently training to become an end-stage supervisor (ESS); the most senior position on the assembly line.
“I would never have imagined that I could train to get this post. SEAT has put its trust in me and I’m going to give it everything I’ve got,” says Victoria.
