The SEAT UK press team lent two intrepid SEATCupra.net members an Ibiza 5dr FR TDI last month for an epic 3,100-mile road trip to the Barcelona Motor Show.
Mark Phelps and Scott Fulton blogged and tweeted throughout their journey, keeping the SEAT enthusiast website’s 60,000 members up to date with their progress and the car’s performance as they travelled across the Channel, through France and into Spain.
“This trip was a very special opportunity for the SEATCupra.net duo, and a great way for us to engage with SEAT’s most active and loyal fans,” said Scott Fisher, SEAT UK Product Affairs Manager.
“We took Mark and Scott to the opening press day of this year’s motor show, where they were able to see the IBE and IBX concepts up close.
“They also met SEAT S.A.’s Head of Marketing Christian Stein, attended SEAT President James Muir’s press presentation and went along to a VIP media event hosted by SEAT Brand ambassador and F1 ace Jaime Alguersuari.
“They had a fantastic time in our ‘home town’ of Barcelona, and relished the chance to really put the Ibiza FR TDI through its paces.”
The 2.0-litre 143 PS TDI supermini’s speed and frugality impressed the SEATCupra.net pair: “The car is good fun to drive, nice and poky and go-kart like, despite being a five-door,” wrote Scott on the Cupranet forum.
“As a work horse with a good range and grunt it has been ideal. We’re really, really impressed.”
“The Ibiza is a real surprise package,” said Mark. “Even at fairly high speeds all day long we’re still expecting a 600-mile tank, which is quite something.”
