Autocar has just picked up its new SEAT Leon Ecomotive SE 1.6 TDI – and is already suitably impressed with the car’s green performance.
“I’ve had a very happy couple of weeks getting accustomed to Ecomotive ownership,” said Autocar’s Mark Tisshaw. “It’s a comfortable and capable performer and already I’m impressed with the economy.
“A few long road trips have helped to return an average of 54.8mpg, some way down on SEAT’s official 74.3mpg figure, but our experiences with modern turbodiesel engines suggest this will improve over time. I fully expect it to be averaging more than 60mpg when the Leon’s time on the fleet is up.
“Better still, though, is the range you can get out of a full tank of diesel. At the start of one trip from London to Norwich, the computer said a range of 485 miles was possible. By the time I reached my destination 140 miles later, this had gone up to 540 miles. The Ecomotive really is in its element on long motorway cruises and gives the impression it’s running on fresh air.”
