A young mum from Bellshill has won a stunning SEAT Leon Copa after correctly predicting the score of last season’s Europa League final.
Karen Douglas entered the prize draw while husband Craig sat glued to the TV as FC Porto beat their Portuguese compatriots Braga 1-0 in the climax to the SEAT-sponsored cup competition.
And just days later she received a phone call from the sporty Spanish car maker’s UK headquarters to inform her she’d scooped the £17,000 star prize, much to the delight of sons Hayden, 6, and Kyle, 3.
Incredibly, her win came just three years after she bagged £2,500 by answering a question correctly in another TV phone-in.
Collecting her stunning new car – a Leon SE Copa 1.2 TSI – from Uddingston dealer W Livingstone Ltd, a delighted Karen beamed: ‘I’d never won anything before I won the cash a few years back and after that I thought my luck would have run out.
‘So I couldn’t believe it when I got the phone call from SEAT to say I’d won the car. I was just speechless.
‘I’m quite keen on my competitions anyway, but I’ll definitely be entering more from now on.’
Karen and Craig, who both commute to work in Glasgow by train, now plan to sell their old car, a Mazda hatchback, to make way for the stylish special edition Leon. And Hayden and Kyle will love their parents’ gadget-packed new car which comes complete with an array of goodies including DAB digital audio, Bluetooth, touchscreen Sat Nav and light and rain sensors.
After presenting Karen with the keys to her new car, Norman Livingstone, Sales Manager at W Livingstone Ltd, said: ‘The Europa League has been an incredibly successful partnership for SEAT and I know that this competition, which was run on TV during the final last month, attracted thousands of entries.
‘I’m delighted that the winner lives just a couple of miles away from our dealership and I’m sure that Karen, Craig and the boys will love their new car.’
