SEAT Ecomotive Series
Less emissions, more emotions

SEAT Ecomotive series

Cutting CO2 emmissions is vitally important to us. But we also believe that, when it comoes to cars, reducing emissions shouldn’t be at the cost of the driving experience And that’s exactly the principle the SEAT have applied to our expanding Ecomotive range of cars, offering choice instead of compromise.

There are 13 Ecomotive models available from the Ibiza to Altea XL. All versions are fitted with SEAT’s new Stop / start and Energy recovery technologies and many are also fitted with the Aero pack.

Start/stop system

These Ecomotives are the first models in SEAT’s range to use Auto Start/Stop technology. When the car comes to a halt, such as at a red traffic light, the driver selects neutral and lifts his foot off the clutch. The Start/Stop system kicks in and automatically switches off the engine. When the driver presses the clutch again, the engine seamlessly starts up, and when a gear is engaged the car can be driven away as usual.

Energy recovery system

The new Ecomotive models are also equipped with a clever energy recovery function. This system uses an enhanced alternator that combines high and low cycles of absorbed power, depending on what the driving style requires. The system uses the car’s battery to store energy that would otherwise be wasted when the brakes are applied. Using this stored energy later improves the car’s fuel economy and cuts CO2 emissions

Modifications to the models’ five-speed gearbox also help to cut fuel consumption even further. The handy recommended gear-indicator device that displays the most appropriate gear for the driving conditions and the fitting of low-friction tyres help cut fuel costs as well.

Advanced aerodynamics

As well as the technological improvements listed above, the Ibiza and Leon Ecomotive models also has an advanced aerodynamic design. A closed grille design and under-body streamlining enables these models achieve its ultra-low emissions level of as low as 92g/km.

The Ibiza Ecomotive is now fitted with the latest 1.2 TDi common rail turbo diesel. This engine achieves a class-leading CO2 emissions level of 92g/km meaning you pay £0 road tax, and combined fuel consumption has been pushed up to 80.7mpg. We offer a number of Eco versions to choose from – 3 door/SC, 5 door and ST (Sport Tourer). The range is also available in 2 different trim levels.

To create the Leon Ecomotive, SEAT added stop / start & Energy recovery technologies, improved the aerodynamics by adding a special drag reducing underbody panel and a closed front grille. With the addition of the 1.6 TDI comon rail Ecomotive engine the emissions were reduced to 99g/km – an almost unprecedented number given the Leon’s size and weight. This also qualifies the Leon Ecomotive for £0 road tax. The Leon is also fitted with a gearshift indicator which tells you exactly when to change gears boosting average combined fuel consumption to a massive 74.3mpg.

Leon Ecomotive is available in 2 trim levels and in addition there are 6 more Leon models available with Ecomotive technology.

The Altea and Altea XL Ecomotives have environmentally sensitive CO2 emmissions, with each model only producing 119 g/km. This is due in part, to a peppy 1.6 TDi common rail Ecomotive engine that delivers 105ps and an average combined consumption of 62.8mpg. Both Altea and Altea XL are fitted with a gearshift indicator an emmisson reducing DPF filter plus the stop / start and energy recovery systems. In common with Leon, the Altea also offers several additional models fitted with Ecomotive technology as standard.

The efficiencies presented by SEAT Ecomotive technology offer an interesting alternative to a Hybrid in terms of BIK tax, operating costs and the environment.

SEAT has created a new leaflet to explain to customers how Ecomotive technology in general, and SEAT Leon Ecomotive models in particular, match up to the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight Hybrids.

How do the vehicles compare on BIK tax costs? What is the cost per mile comparison? Where does Ecomotive stand with respect to London Congestion Charging and Vehicle Excise Duty?
